U.S. Blacklists Indian Travel Agents Over Illegal Migration Links 

The U.S. is making it harder for people to cross the border illegally by penalizing Indian travel agencies said to be involved in smuggling. 

United States: On Monday, the U.S. State Department said it was placing travel agency owners and staff from India on a visa blacklist for helping illegal migrants come to the United States, as reported by Reuters. 

Visa Bans Target Smuggling Networks 

Bruce, the department spokesperson, mentioned that people connected to travel agencies in India were being banned from getting visas under the Immigration and Nationality Act, according to details gathered by the U.S. mission to India. 

Usually, officials in Washington don’t reveal the names of those whose visas are revoked under their power to ban them. 

Ongoing Crackdown on Migration Abuse 

“We will continue to take steps to impose visa restrictions against owners, executives, and senior officials of travel agencies to cut off alien smuggling networks,” Bruce said, without detailing how the travel agents had facilitated illegal migration.

This decision was taken during President Trump’s major effort to restrict migration to the U.S. and tribunals on the illegal presence of immigrants, as reported by Reuters.

The U.S. Embassy in India has reminded Indian nationals planning trips to the United States several times on its social media channels that they must leave the country once their authorized stay ends, or they will be deported and cannot go back.
